3mm typical bleed. but should always discuss with printer.

when working in photoshop must make sure on its:

colour mode. cmyk/ greyscale, monotone or duotone.

resolution. 300dpi

file types. tiff, psd. but also psd, eps.

when working in illustrator must make sure on its:

colour mode. cmyk

file type. ai

when working

file --> package. all items duplicated where you want it.

psd over tiff when working with layers (transparency)

spot colours. add new swatch

find out what swatch book looking at. speak to printer. depends on stock.

window --> output --> separations preview.

spot is knocked out.

black always overprints.

spot varnish. create unique spot colour that is not used anywhere else.

this is where you can print varnish instead of colour.

however the varnish will get knocked out

so need to change so that the colour overprints instead of knockout.

window --> output --> attributes.

select text tool and select Overprint fill

if printing on own stock but is just black and white.

go to colour/ quality options. select colour as grey

only charges you for a black and white

finshing, pick stock.
